Eligibility criteria for RTE (Right to education)

RTE stands for the Right to Education Act, which was enacted by the Indian government in 2009. The Act ensures free and compulsory education for children between the ages of 6 and 14 years in India. The eligibility criteria for RTE are as follows:

1. Age: The child must be between the ages of 6 and 14 years.

2. Family income: The annual income of the child’s parents/guardians must not exceed Rs. 1 Lakh.

3. Residence: The child must be a resident of the state in which the admission is sought.

4. School admission: The child must be seeking admission to a school that is recognized by the government and follows the curriculum as prescribed by the state.

5. Other criteria: The RTE Act also provides for reservation of seats for children belonging to economically weaker sections, disadvantaged groups, and children with special needs.
